 What’s the cure for a chocolate coma brought on from several helpings of these? A full serving of fruits and veg in liquid cake form! It’ll snap you right out of that sugar coma.

Introducing the Black Forest Smoothie courtesy of Amanda over at CLEAN! It truely does taste like cake batter in a cup. yummmm.

I stumbled upon this recipe a couple of months ago when I was doing my first ever cleanse which I now attribute to my healthier lifestyle and weight loss (yay!). For the program I had to give up sugar for 21 days- yikes! It wasn’t quite as difficult as I thought and with a little help from this smoothie I made it through!

Black Forest Smoothie

Makes two servings.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Almond Milk
  • 3/4 – 1 cup frozen cherries (the sweet dark kind not tart)
  • 1-2 tbs of chopped almonds or a tbs of almond butter
  • 1/4-1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1-2 tbs cocoa powder
  • 1 tbs ground flax seed or chia
  • 1 tbs protein powder of choice (optional)

Blend together and enjoy! Adjust ingredients as necessary, adding a little more milk if it’s too thick, or more cherries or ice if it’s too then. Add a squirt of honey or agave if you need a little more sweetness.

Feeling totally awesome with yo healthy self? Throw in a handful of spinach for a serving of veg. I *promise* you won’t taste it
